Ebony East Tricycle

Lions presented Ebony East with a mobility tricycle to help her get
around easier. The presentation was performed at the Latrobe High School
much to the surprise and joy of not only Ebony but her mother as well.
This is the reason many of join Lions.

What a great night. Well done to Lou and all the team. Thanks to all the band members for the generosity of their time and envious skills. Great musicians, great music.There were some great costumes with Pat and Allison being a special treat! A lot of people had gone to a lot of trouble and effort (in more ways than one) which all went to making a very memorable evening.

Relay for Life 2010

The relay at Penguin was a little damp, but this did not stop us from having a good time. Thanks to Lion Rod and Judith for the yummy scones on Sunday morning and to all the Lions and Ladies that put in over the year to help raise all that much needed money, which goes to a very worthy cause.

Christmas Carols

This years Christmas Carols were the best yet and was a great credit to Lion Lou Manson for all his hard work in arranging the event. Thanks must go to all the Lions that helped set up the hall, cooked and served on the BBQ ( even though a few patrons were a bit impatient for their free sausage), sold raffle tickets and lights and helped with the tidy up after the carols ( although at one stage it would appear Lion Lou would have that all to himself). The carols themselves were great and the crowning glory was Brett Budgeon who received a standing ovation and even went on after his stint to sing a couple more songs, after some crowd encouragement. The Crescendo Choir and the Latrobe Federal Band performed magnificently once again and M.C. Lion Lou was at his crowd pleasing best once again.

Xmas Party

The annual Christmas party was once again a big success if you can judge success by the amount of smiles on the kids faces. A big thank you must go out to Gina O'Connor without who Santa's sack would have been very empty indeed. Also thanks to all who helped on the day on the BBQ, serving, washing up cleaning up and all the other chores. And it appears age doesn't stop you from wanting to sit on Santa's lap.

Family Fun Day

A great day was had a Camp Banksia on Sunday 8th as we served up 500 sausages to the hungry masses, as well as handing out about the same amount of cans of cordial. What a fantastic event and great organisation by the Camp Banksia crew.

Movie Night

36 Lions and guests (more guests than Lions) turn up to have a few sandwiches and drinks at Cmax cinema on Thursday night to watch the movie Balibo. Lions Denzil and Jeanette did a great job organising the night, but if we can not get more Lions to these events, I am afraid they will not go ahead. The movie was very confronting and powerful to say the least. To think this went on only 24 years ago. The movie was worth going to just for the fashion, stubbie shorts and thongs.

AFL Grand Final Day

The Port Sorell Surf Lifesaving Club are holding an AFL Grand final Day at the Port Sorell memorial Hall on 26 September from 12 till approx 8 p.m. They have extended an open invitation to all Lions and their families and friends. Panatana Park Tree Planting

After receiving a phone call from a bearded member (who shall remain nameless) who asked if we would be planting water Lillie's today, the rain stayed away long enough for us to plant about 15 trees and 50 grasses at Panatana park. A good turnout of members and their families turned up and it took about an hour to put all the plants in the ground, would have taken less time if not for all the rocks just under the surface of the ground. These plantings will provide shade in future years as well as adding to the natural beauty of the area.

Orana Lunch

Another succesfull lunch was served to Orana residents on Sunday. Six Lions turned up and cooked a sumptuous lunch of Roast lamb with all the trimmings and a desert of Apple crumble. The next lunch will be in September, please contact Lion Lou if you can help. A reminder to not forget Sunday at Panatana Park for tree planting.

Hall Paving Mark 2

On a chilly Saturday morning 10 Lions and Friends of Lions turned up at the Hall to finish off the paving. By 11 am all the pavers were laid and then we had the task of filling all the halves and fiddly bits. Lion Rob worked the cutter like a man possesed and by the end of the day had turned from being a white man into a lovely shade of red. The pavers are now finished and look fantastic. Thanks to all who helped and to Aileen for cooking lunch for us. Just a reminder, next Sunday 2dn August we are planting trees at Panatana Park. Bring the family and friends, the more the merrirer. We will be having a BBQ after, for any more please contact Lion Stephen Dick.

Port Sorell Hall Paving

6 Lions turned up on an overcast Saturday Morning to lay a few paver's at the Port Sorell Hall. The Latrobe council had already laid the base so all we had to do was lay some crusher dust and then put some paver's on top. Lion Beaver, and his able helpers, Ross and Jesse did a great job laying the base for Lions Steve, Frank, Rob and Dallas to lay the paver's. We had, we thought, an ex council employee turn up by the skillful way he could lean on a shovel. We will be going back again next Saturday to finish off, so if you can spare an hour or 2 or 3 please turn up, the more the merrier.

Lots of presentations at change over dinner

At this years change over dinner, hosted by the Latrobe Lions Club at the Axemans Hall of Fame out-going President Lion Lou Manson had his hands full with a large number of awards presented. They were Lion Denzil King and Lion Grenville Bellchambers receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Lions Rodney Bramich, Geoffrey Richardson and Jeannette Manson receiving Tasmanian Lions Foundation Fellow awards and Lion Chris Smith receiving James D Richardson Award. The Citizen of the Year award was also presented to Jack Nichols. Congratulations to all recipients, this is just recognision for past efforts.

New blog site

After much angst and cursing the new blog page for the Lions Club of
Port Sorell is now up and running. As this is a work in progress I
expect to be able to tell all Lions about how this works and can be of
use very soon.
